Competence 1

It is critical to recognize the fact that, as a Christians, a biblical worldview is the foundation of my thinking and building of life. The Bible is my only rule of faith and practice. The Bible   informs my understanding of truth, reality, our place in the world, how the world got this way, morals and values, and how one can know what is truth. From a theistic point of view, God is the basis of reality (Gen.1:1-3). Reality is based on a person, an intelligent being (John 1:1-3; Col. 1:16) who is in control of the universe and is very…

The development of all initiatives for the environment and workplace ought to be innovative given the complexity of the modern society. The strategic development and implementation, based on needs assessment, is essential for successful management of  the church. Joseph M. Duran is credited with the creation of the trilogy concept of quality planning, quality improvement and quality control. At the local church level I would be more intentional about quality management as I seek to implement the principles of quality planning, where I will focus on goals, membership and controls; quality control, where I will focus monitoring established plans and …

Competence 3

Conducting a successful business in a competitive business environment requires innovative strategies that target identifying and meeting customers’ felt needs in an efficient and cost- effective way. W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne coined the terms Red and Blue oceans to denote the market universe. Red oceans are all the industries in existence today- the known market space, where industries boundaries are defined and companies try to outperform their rivals to grab a greater a greater share of the existing market. Cutthroat competition turns the ocean bloody red. Hence the term ‘red’ oceans. Blue oceans denote all the industries not…

Our church is seeking to create a positive environment that engenders maximum participation of its members in the accomplishment of its mission. A SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis would be conducted as part of the process in the development of its strategic plan. Through the principles of strategic management, the Church will do a strategic analysis that would help it understand its strategic position, determine its strategic choice by making decisions that would determine its future, and through strategic implementation develop a process that puts plans and strategies into action to reach its goals. Fiscal management and quality…

The development of this research project, (predictive factors of financial satisfaction of the members of the Seventh-day Adventist churches in Edmonton Alberta), as a partial fulfillment of the requirements of the course for a PhD in Business Administration, will make a significant contribution to the body of knowledge, and would add value to the lives of individuals and families both in the church and in the community at large. Church members can be helped in gaining financial freedom, which would help them to adequately meet the financial needs of their families, have more time to volunteer in the church, and…

Having proficiency in two languages is a tremendous advantage as a professional. I desire to learn a third language to be able to reach out to individuals that can only be reached through their native tongue. Attending Montemorelos for both my masters and terminal degrees has further inspired me to pursue my passion for learning as many languages as possible. Learning French is on my bucket list. I have had the privilege of working for the East Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, as a pastor in St. Lucia where French Creole is spoken and where I learnt to communicate, though…

Given my skills, knowledge, and new knowledge I am inspired to contribute to the formation of other professionals who will in turn inspire and empowerthose who are within the sphere of influence, thus significantly impacting their quality of life. The results of my study will be invaluable in helping to reach that objective. Presenting seminars and workshops on matters of family life, stewardship and family finance is a rewarding experience. I have had the privilege, for over fifteen years, to be a mentor to theology students of Burman University in the areas of pastoral field experience and practicum in pastoral…

Competence 9

In my pastoral experience I have found that, at the church level, operating on the status quo of church management results in less than adequate achievement of stated organizational goals. The church ought to adopt strategic alternatives that will propel it to the accomplishment of its goals. Quality leadership is essential for the realization of such objective.  I have found that the organization of departmental clusters has proven to be effective. In this model, an elder is placed to lead a cluster of departments provide support, counsel, and leadership to each head of department, thus, making them more efficient and…

The time has come for the church to recognize the value of business principles and strategies to help it with the efficient and effective management of the organization in the fulfillment of its mission. The church needs men and women who are trained in business at the highest levels of leadership. If we want to enhance our influence, both internally and externally, we need to review our negotiating and decision-making processes with a view of identifying the flaws within the system and develop frameworks for making sound decision, and create a mechanism to monitor, improve, and implement negotiation skills. Cultural…

Given the importance of business, at both the personal and corporate levels, it is absolutely essential that the church design and deliver programs that would create awareness and develop basic business skills among its members so that they can make informed decisions when it comes to financial management. Basic knowledge of economic and business administration, both nationally and internationally, is essential. We need a proper   understanding of money and how it works. It is not to be seen as secular, but spiritual and important. It is reported that the New Testament speaks more about money than about heaven and hell…

In my view the employees of any organization should have barrier-free access to the policies and guidelines of the organization. Administrative procedures ought to govern management’s decision making. This will help to ensure that management’s decisions are objective, fair, and consistent. In the context of the Church, our leaders are held accountable at all times, thus ensuring that the interest of the organization is protected. Management is tasked with the responsibility of creating a culture that will drive the organization. At the local church level we are working on the creation of a new culture that will galvanize all the…
